Sports Hypnosis Online is the synergy of the passions of my life. These are helping people overcome life challenges, participating in endurance sports, and helping myself and others with mental training using whole brain techniques.

In 1977, I ran and completed the Marine Corps Marathon. I was totally under trained for such a grueling event. Watching Frank Shorter win the silver Medal in the 1976 Olympics in Montreal was my inspiration. I’m sure I did everything wrong in my race training but, in my defense, there were no running stores, no running shoes (I bought my first pair from the car trunk of a fellow runner), and no training plans on the Internet (no Internet).

The race was hard. At mile 18, my lower body was numb from the waist down and my mind was in the Little Choo-Choo Mode. The runners around me were stopping and many of them were not running again for a long period of time. As bad as my legs cried out in pain, I was determined not to stop.

The finish line, at the Iwo Jima Memorial, was up a slight grade and around a bend. It was the longest 200 yards of my life. But when I crossed the finish line, I experienced a deep, visceral feeling, down in my soul, sense of accomplishment. My very being and existence was forever transformed. I experienced a high feeling in my heart and mind as my body suffered the agony of running 26.2 miles.

Running and finishing the Marine Corps Marathon was a peak experience that helped transform my life. Not only was my running life forever changed, but my personal and professional life was as well. I discovered deep inside me my volition, my will to succeed. Later I learned how to center myself in this deepest of power and tap into my inner most resources. I knew if I can run a marathon, I can do anything.

Finishing the Marine Corps Marathon provided me with the confidence to pursue a Ph.D. in psychology. During the course of my doctoral training, when the going got tough in academia, I would tell myself, “its okay you can do this. You can do hard things. It’s like mile 18 of the Marine Corps.” Many personal pep talks got me through the rigors of my doctoral program.

As I reflect back over the event, I see that completing the Marine Corps Marathon was a transformative, peak experience. It was an event of self-discovery, of overcoming limitations, and of great personal growth.

I earned my Ph.D. from the University of Florida and practiced psychology for more than 38 years. My work experiences were in both the public and private sectors.

Within the public sector, I worked as a teacher, a professor, a  coach, and a school psychologist. In the private domain, I specialized in stress management, post traumatic stress disorder, and body-mind therapies. I am a Master Hypnotherapist, a Reiki Master, as well as a psychotherapist.

I developed and presented the multidimensional model, Healing from the Inside Out, at regional and international conferences, including the International Conference on Alternative and Complimentary Healing Therapies in Washington, D.C. I co- created and presented training seminars for hypnotherapists. These included:

  • Foundations of Hypnotherapy
